Great Dixter House and Gardens, East Sussex

Saturday 4 July 2015

As part of the East Dulwich WI series of events to celebrate 100 years of the Women’s Institute, we have planned a fabulous day trip to the Great Dixter House & Gardens in East Sussex on Saturday 4 July 2015.

Formerly the family home of gardener and garden writer Christopher Lloyd, Great Dixter is a historic 15th century manor house surrounded by gardens with a wonderful variety of plants including an orchard, topiary lawn and a vegetable garden.

A truly stunning home, it is sure to be a popular trip so please secure your place early. For more details on the history of the house and gardens please visit their website www.greatdixter.co.uk.  Tickets are £30 and will include transport and entry to the house.  Full details of the day can be downloaded here.

Sign up sheets will be available at our meetings, or simply drop us an email to secure your space! It looks set to be a fantastic day out and we do hope you can join us!  events@eastdulwichwi.co.uk

We are currently working with the team at East Dulwich Picturehouse to arrange our first visit. Stay tuned for more details.

rivoli Ballroom, swing dancing, EDWI, Christmas, Party, Dance

EDWI Centenary Christmas Spectacular

Wednesday 2nd December

Join us for an evening of dancing and decadence at the historic Rivoli Ballroom. The Rivoli Ballroom is the only intact 1950s ballroom in London and remains one of its best kept secrets. With a live band, staffed bar and dancers on hand to give us dancing moves and tips. Our neighbours from newly formed Nunhead WI are invited to join us too. It’s set to be a fantastic evening and a great way to end our Centenary year in style!

All this plus all our usual fun, with our monthly meetings, Make & Do and Book Club. What a year!

National Resolution – Failing to Care

Following our ballot earlier in the year, we submitted our vote to support the Failing To Care national campaign.

This meeting calls on HM government to remove the distinction between nursing care and personal care in the assessment of the needs of individuals, in order to advance health and wellbeing.

Proposed By : North Duffield WI, North Yorkshire East federation

The proposer is concerned that ‘inequality in how needs are assessed’ is leading to ‘vulnerable patients being denied their right to NHS Continuing Care’ resulting in an unfair system, in which many families are having to rely on local authority social care, to which they may have to contribute financially.

Keep popping back for more details on the above events plus any more news we have for you.
