Pickling Demonstration with Newton & Pott
Wednesday 4 October – 7.30pm-9.30pm
This month we are back at the EDT for a classic WI evening. We are welcoming Kylee Newton of Newton & Pott who has been making innovative homemade chutneys, pickles and jams in her flat in Hackney for the past eight years and is on a mission to bring preserves into the 21st Century. Initially she started making preserves as gifts, but they became so popular a business was born.
She is renowned for mixing flavours and being experimental, with alcohol being a key ingredient of many of her products! Hailing originally from New Zealand, she uses many exotic fruits that are grown in her home country, like feijoas and tamarillos.
With a stall at East London’s Broadway Market and a book on preserves published, who could be better qualified to give us a demonstration of two different, tasty seasonal pickles? She’ll be showing us how to make Gin Pickled Cucumber & Pickled Radishes. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!
There will be free takeaway samples of some of Newton & Pott’s best pickles, jams and chutneys and a great raffle prize, plus signed copies of her book ‘The Modern Preserver’ and other products for sale on the night.
What to Bring
You don’t need to bring anything with you on the evening, but a notebook to take down some notes of Kylee’s recipe secrets could be useful as well as cash to buy raffle tickets and other goodies to take home.
Please arrive between 7.00 and 7.15pm so you have plenty of time to get a drink and take your seat before the demonstration starts at 7.30pm prompt.
We look forward to seeing you!
The EDWI Committee
Oscar Themed Evening with Gareth Ellis-Unwin
Wednesday 1 November – 7.30pm-9.30pm
At our next meeting we are incredibly excited to be welcoming multi-award-winning film producer, Gareth Ellis-Unwin, who received an Oscar for one of our favourite movies, The King’s Speech.
The whole evening will be Oscar-themed, with a red carpet and paparazzi to greet us – please feel free to join some of the committee in wearing your best red carpet outfit (optional). It is, after all, a great excuse to get dressed up!
Continuing the film theme, we would also like you to think of a clue to your favourite film in advance of the evening – it could be a quote, the names of the lead actors or something more cryptic. We’ll be adding your clues to your name badges so we can all try and guess yours!
